Barnier reportedly said there is no breakthrough on fisheries; GBP/USD slips below 1.3400

According to RTE's Europe Editor Tony Connelly, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier told EU ambassadors that there has been no breakthrough on the fisheries question.

Separately, Reuters cited a senior EU diplomat saying that Barnier's briefing was rather downbeat on prospects of a deal.

The not so optimistic Brexit-related headlines took its toll on the British pound and dragged the GBP/USD pair back below the 1.3400 round-figure mark.
